11. Persephone

As the hair of the buddha is shorn with his departure, as the grain is shorn with the departure of Osiris, Persephone plucks a flower before she is whisked away. The earth opens and she is abducted to the underworld - to Hades. This is a journey through death, a journey through pregnancy, a journey through marriage, a journey through trauma, a journey through womanhood and the journey to Spring. When Persephone is taken, Summer gives way to Fall gives way to Winter. Her return is the return of Spring, the return of Kore - feminine life energy associated with new life in the new year. We will continue to explore this myth and its layers - the key for now is to recognize this recurring motif of the journey through the underworld and the symbolic layers through which it's associated with journeys of celestial lights and earthly seasons.
