Gods as Archetypes
Pantheon as Psyche
The concept here is to imagine the cast in a story as like a cast in a dream. A cast in a dream is your psyche, so we imagine a cast in a story as a psyche with an archetypal set of characters. These characters are personifications of drives and functions in the psyche, as seen in Inside Out. Imagine now the cast of characters that make up a great mythos - the step is to contemplate these characters as representations of corresponding qualities in the human psyche. Insofar as the psyche projects itself into the world, we end up with the psychological mood of Zeus seen and heard through lightning and thunder.
